SES
The Milwaukee Public Schools offers Supplemental Educational Services, known as SES, to eligible students each school year. SES is a wonderful opportunity to receive additional instruction in Math, Reading and/or Science in a motivational setting.

Approved providers must offer students extra academic help anytime outside of the regular school day. After school is the most common time of SES to be offered, but it could also take place before school and on weekends.

Providers many offer services in a variety of settings:
  • Schools
  • Public libraries
  • Provider office
  • Family home
  • Community centers
  • Places of worship

Many providers offer "hands on" tutoring by trained instructors. Others offer Internet-based instruction that students can access through a computer at home, in a school, or at a community center.

SES is offered free of charge to all eligible students. In order to be eligible to participate, students must:
  • Attend certain Title 1 schools (listed above)
  • Meet income standards based on the MPS 2009-10 Free and Reduced Price Meals System application to qualify for free and reduced meals during the school year.

The number of seats available is limited. If enrollment exceeds available seats a selection process will be used to select the children who get seats. Priority will be given to low-income, non-proficient students.

Contact your child's local school (numbers listed above) or the Supplemental Educational Services office at 414-475-8238 in order to make an informed decision about this unique educational opportunity.

The Milwaukee Public School System believes that academic achievement is of the utmost importance and we encourage the parents of eligible students to take advantage of SES.
